Gulf Pointe – A Quiet Place That Became a Turning Point
Gulf Pointe has been my peaceful retreat for over twenty years. Long before it became a painting, it served as a refuge—a place I returned to for tranquility, space, and perspective along Florida’s Gulf Coast waters. Growing up in New Jersey, beach life has always been part of my story. Many of my early summers were spent at the Jersey Shore, especially on Long Beach Island, known as LBI. Those experiences planted the seeds for my coastal artwork and later inspired paintings like Always on Vacay.
Naples, Florida, offered something different. Slower. Softer. Gulf Pointe, a small 15-unit resort nestled near Vanderbilt Beach, became a place where time seemed to loosen its grip. Palm trees, sunlit sand, and warm evening skies created a rhythm that stayed with me long after each visit ended.
In 2017, during one of those trips, something unexpected occurred—something that quietly altered the course of my career. While visiting Gallery Vibe, I met owner Shelby Ward. I showed her a few images of my artwork on my phone and asked if my style might be a good fit for her gallery. Her response wasn’t what I anticipated. Instead of a yes or no, she offered advice.
She told me to research the top galleries in major U.S. cities, study their aesthetic, and send blind emails to the ones that felt aligned. When I got back home, I did exactly that. I sent more than fifty emails. Most went unanswered. A few asked for money. I kept painting anyway.
Months later, I received an unexpected email—one that eventually led to my work being exhibited and sold at the American Contemporary Art Show in Guangzhou, China. That opportunity opened because of a simple conversation that started in Naples. Gulf Pointe became forever connected to that pivotal moment.
Today, my artwork is displayed at Village Gallery, widely recognized as one of the leading art galleries in Sedona. It’s an inspiring venue where collectors can experience my luminous art in person—stand in front of my Sedona paintings, feel their energy, and see how the same storytelling style that influences my Southwest wall art also appears in quieter coastal pieces like Gulf Pointe.
Not long after, another meaningful connection deepened the story. While passing through Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, I met Denise, a fellow resort owner traveling to Gulf Pointe in Naples. Months later, she reached out with a special request. She wanted a custom beach-inspired painting to give her parents as a thank-you for gifting her their timeshare.
She gave me creative freedom, trusting my style completely. That trust mattered. Commissions can be tricky, but when she later told me her parents loved the painting, it felt like a quiet affirmation. Gulf Pointe became that gift—an expression of gratitude, memory, and place.
Painted with fluorescent acrylics, this artwork marked a meaningful departure from my Southwest wall art. Here, I explored coastal light through glowing sand, patterned skies, and palm silhouettes that evoke warmth rather than heat. The fluorescent sky and sand give the piece a subtle Day-to-Night presence, revealing depth and energy beyond daylight.
Gulf Pointe naturally aligns with my other coastal works, including The Dunes of Naples, La Jolla, and Serenity at Sunset. Although different from my Sedona paintings, it shares the same storytelling soul—portraying places that carry meaning, shaped by lived experience rather than postcard-perfect scenery.
