Clark Sheppard is the founder and artist behind Sedona Art Studios. Based in Sedona, Arizona, Clark creates vibrant Southwest landscape paintings inspired by the region’s iconic red rocks, dramatic skies, and the quiet spirit of the desert. His signature style combines bold color, patterned skies, and fluorescent acrylics that allow many of his original paintings to reveal a luminous second personality under black light.

Although Clark didn’t begin painting until the age of 45, his artwork is now collected internationally. His painting Creekside Cathedral was licensed by Warner Bros., twelve of his original paintings sold during an international exhibition in Guangzhou, China, and his award-winning Patriotic Longhorns is part of the private collection of President George W. Bush.

Today, Clark continues to create original paintings from his studio, welcomes visitors for complimentary studio tours by appointment, and shares the stories and inspiration behind each painting through his Behind the Canvas series.

What is a Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Giclée?
A Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Giclée is a museum-quality reproduction created at the exact same size as the original painting, then finished by hand in my Sedona studio. I add texture, subtle color shifts, and luminous highlights so each piece carries real depth and painterly presence.

Do these look like the original paintings?
Yes. In person, these pieces often read as originals. The hand-applied texture and glowing accents give them a convincing, painterly surface that frequently surprises viewers until they’re told it’s a hand-embellished edition.

How many are made of each artwork?
Each artwork is strictly limited to 25 hand-embellished editions. Every piece is signed “McShep,” numbered, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Once the edition is complete, it is never reproduced again in that size.

Are they the same size as the original?
Yes. Every Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Giclée is produced at the exact dimensions of the original painting. This is intentional, preserving the scale, impact, and presence of the original work.

What makes each one unique?
Because every piece is hand-finished, no two are ever exactly alike. Variations in texture, brushwork, and glowing highlights make each edition a one-of-a-kind collectible—much like an original.

Do they include black-light reactive elements?
Some editions include black-light reactive accents that reveal an additional layer of the artwork under UV light. When this feature is included, it will be clearly noted in the artwork description.

How do these compare in value to an original?
Hand-embellished editions offer the look, feel, and energy of the original painting at roughly one-third the cost. They’ve become an ideal middle ground for collectors who want something deeply personal without the full investment of an original.

To ensure your artwork lasts a lifetime, keep it away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and humidity. Dust it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For pieces framed under glass, use a gentle glass cleaner. If you have any specific questions about caring for your artwork, please don’t hesitate to ask.

All art is made to order. Unfortunately, due to the custom nature of the sizes and media offered to the purchaser, we cannot accept returns. All sales are final.

My greatest inspiration is the incredible beauty of Sedona and the American Southwest. I’m drawn to the way light transforms the landscape throughout the day—from the warm glow of sunrise and sunset to the quiet magic of moonlit nights.

But I don’t simply paint what I see. I paint what I feel. My goal is to capture the emotion, wonder, and sense of peace that a place leaves behind, often blending reality with imagination to create vibrant, mystical landscapes that invite you to look a little longer.

Many of my paintings also include hidden details, subtle symbolism, and layers of fluorescent acrylics that allow the original artwork to reveal a glowing second personality under black light. Each painting tells its own story, and I enjoy sharing those stories through my Behind the Canvas series.

Whether it’s Cathedral Rock, Monument Valley, Zion National Park, or a quiet desert trail, every painting begins with a moment that inspired me—and ends with the hope that it will inspire someone else.

Every painting begins with an idea or a moment that captures my imagination. Sometimes it’s a hike through Sedona, an unforgettable sunset, a photograph shared with permission, or simply a memory that stays with me long after I’ve left a place.

Back in my studio, I sketch, experiment with composition, and begin building the painting layer by layer using acrylics. Many of my original paintings include fluorescent acrylics that are carefully blended into the artwork. Under normal lighting they add depth and richness, while under black light they reveal glowing colors and hidden details that create an entirely new viewing experience.

I don’t try to paint an exact copy of nature. Instead, I interpret what I saw and felt, adding my own sense of color, movement, and imagination to create a painting that is uniquely my own.

From the first brushstroke to the final signature, each painting is created by hand in my Sedona-area studio. The stories, challenges, and inspiration behind many of these works are also shared in my Behind the Canvas series, where you can follow the journey from concept to finished artwork.

I’m grateful that my artwork has taken me on a journey I never imagined when I first picked up a paintbrush at the age of 45.

Some memorable milestones include having my painting Creekside Cathedral licensed by Warner Bros. for the feature film Snatchers, selling twelve original paintings during an international exhibition in Guangzhou, China, and creating Patriotic Longhorns, which is part of the private collection of President George W. Bush.

Earlier in my career, one of my Monument Valley watercolors was selected to hang in the historic Stagecoach Dining Room at Goulding’s Lodge in Monument Valley—an honor that remains especially meaningful because of my love for the Southwest.

Today, my paintings are collected throughout the United States and internationally. The greatest accomplishment, however, is knowing that my artwork has found homes where it brings beauty, conversation, and enjoyment to people every day. That’s what inspires me to keep painting.

I take great care in packaging my artwork to ensure it arrives safely. All orders are shipped with tracking and insurance. Depending on your location, shipping times may vary, but I strive to get your artwork to you as quickly as possible.

If your artwork arrives damaged, be sure to contact me immediately with photos of the damage and the packaging. I will work with you to resolve the issue, whether that means a replacement, repair, or refund.

I do not offer framing services directly, but I can recommend trusted framers who will carefully handle your artwork. If you would like guidance on framing, feel free to ask. I do offer Float Frames with my Giclée’s.
