The Story Behind the Triptych
Cathedral Moon Triptych emerged from a collector’s request for a painting that could transform a great room through scale rather than intensity. Building upon the original Cathedral Moon composition, the triptych format allowed the landscape to expand outward—inviting the viewer to step into the scene rather than observe it from a distance.
Cathedral Moon Triptych grew out of Cathedral Moon, one of my Top Nine paintings and a defining work in my Cathedral Rock series. As collectors responded to the calm presence of the original composition, requests emerged for a version that could expand across a wall and shape an entire room through scale rather than intensity.
The composition unfolds across three connected panels, creating a continuous visual rhythm. Cathedral Rock anchors the scene while flowing water and sky extend horizontally, allowing the painting to interact with the architecture of the space itself. The luminous moon sits at the heart of the triptych, not as a marker of night, but as a symbol of reverence and continuity within a radiant sky.
This format was not created as a variation, but as a fully realized expression of the painting’s intent: calm, balance, and timeless presence.
Presence at Scale
What distinguishes Cathedral Moon Triptych is its ability to fill large walls while maintaining a sense of stillness. The triptych format introduces a gentle architectural rhythm, allowing the artwork to shape a room’s atmosphere rather than dominate it.
Collectors often choose this piece for great rooms, wide living areas, and feature walls where a single canvas would feel restrained. The three-panel format creates immersion without heaviness, offering visual continuity that feels expansive, grounding, and quietly powerful.
The moon remains symbolic rather than nocturnal, making the triptych especially well-suited for bright, open interiors where light and space are already present.
Relationship to Cathedral Moon
Cathedral Moon Triptych shares the same spirit and visual language as Cathedral Moon, while offering a distinct experience. Where the single-panel versions center the moment, the triptych expands it—allowing the landscape to breathe across space.
Collectors often view the two as complementary expressions: Cathedral Moon as contemplative and intimate, and Cathedral Moon Triptych as immersive and architectural. Both belong to the same creative lineage, shaped by the same intent.
The Heart of It All
Art lights up the same part of your brain as
falling in love—it’s an unforgettable feeling.
Available Formats & Editions
Because Cathedral Moon Triptych is composed of three connected panels, it is offered exclusively in formats designed to preserve its panoramic flow and structural integrity.
• Canvas gallery wrap giclées
• Luminous Metal prints
These formats ensure consistent alignment across all three panels while maintaining the artwork’s luminous color, clarity, and immersive presence. Other print options are not offered for this piece, as they do not support the triptych’s architectural design.
Collector’s Note
Cathedral Moon Triptych is an expanded expression of Cathedral Moon, created for collectors who are drawn to scale, balance, and immersive presence. Designed to shape the atmosphere of a room rather than simply decorate it, the triptych brings harmony, spatial flow, and quiet reverence into larger living spaces.
This piece reflects my ongoing exploration of luminous Southwest art inspired by Sedona’s landscapes, offering a format that allows the landscape to unfold across architecture and space.
