The Story Behind the Painting

Cathedral Moon stands as one of the most meaningful works in my artistic journey. While it was not my first oil painting—Creekside Cathedral holds that distinction—it became the defining piece of my Cathedral Rock series.

The painting began as a commission from a Sedona collector who loved Creekside Cathedral and imagined the scene re-envisioned with a luminous moon and a wider presence suitable for her great room. That request shifted the direction of the work. The moon introduced a sense of reverence and stillness, not nightfall, but a timeless presence suspended within a glowing sky.

Over time, Cathedral Moon evolved into two distinct single-panel formats. The standard format offers a balanced, contemplative presence, while the panoramic format expands the landscape outward, creating a wider sense of immersion and architectural flow across larger walls.

As collectors began requesting even greater scale and presence, the composition also evolved into a three-panel presentation known as Cathedral Moon Triptych, offering an immersive, architectural experience designed to span a wall across three connected panels.

Presence and Atmosphere

Cathedral Moon is often described by collectors as a painting that fills a space without overwhelming it. The moon acts as a symbol rather than a time marker—offering calm, guidance, and a sense of blessing rather than darkness.

The flowing water, vibrant landforms, and expansive sky create an atmosphere that is uplifting and grounding at once. This balance allows the painting to live comfortably in bright rooms and open spaces, radiating serenity instead of intensity.

Context Within My Work

The story of Cathedral Moon reflects key moments in my broader career. Creekside Cathedral, the painting that inspired it, was licensed by Warner Bros. in 2016 and later exhibited and sold at the American Contemporary Art Show in China in 2019.

Alongside works such as Fire in the Sky and Coyote’s Lunar Serenade, Cathedral Moon explores a different relationship with Cathedral Rock—one rooted in stillness, continuity, and reverence rather than time of day. Together, these pieces reveal the many emotional faces of Sedona’s landscape.

The Heart of It All

Art lights up the same part of your brain as

falling in love—it’s an unforgettable feeling.

Available Formats & Editions

Cathedral Moon is offered in both standard and panoramic formats and is available in the following options:

  • Original painting (when available)
    • Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Giclées (edition of 25)
    • Canvas gallery wrap giclées
    • Luminous Metal prints
    • Gift art photo plaques
    • Giclée art prints

Each Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Giclée begins as a museum-quality giclée made at the same size as the original. It is then returned to my studio, where I hand-embellish the surface using fluorescent acrylics—adding texture, subtle color shifts, and glowing highlights.

Even for works that were not originally painted with fluorescents, these hand-embellished editions may receive fluorescent acrylic accents by request, introducing the same luminous, day-to-night presence that has become a hallmark of my work. No two are ever exactly alike.

Collector’s Note

Within my Top Nine collection, Cathedral Moon represents reverence and balance. It is often chosen by collectors seeking a calming presence—art that brings harmony, light, and quiet connection into their home.

Cathedral Moon is part of my ongoing exploration of luminous Southwest art inspired by Sedona’s landscapes.

Gallery Representation

My work is also featured at the Village Gallery in Sedona—a Sedona art gallery known for representing only hand-made artwork by local artists, widely regarded as the true heart of Sedona’s art community.
