The Story Behind the Painting
Sometimes a painting begins long before the first brushstroke.
For me, this La Jolla painting traces back to an unexpected invitation from Nimin Chen, Vice President of Muzillion Art—an international art and technology company with galleries in the United States and plans for expansion across Asia. She explained that their team had viewed my artwork several times and felt my colorful style would resonate strongly with collectors in China.
At first, I approached the opportunity carefully. I verified references, asked questions, and made sure everything felt right. Even my inner compass pointed to yes. I had an attorney draft a contract, and Nimin signed it exactly as written—without requesting a single change.
Soon after, she traveled to Sedona to see my work in person. From my studio she selected twelve original paintings for the American Contemporary Art Show in Guangzhou, China. Every one of those paintings eventually sold.
When it came time to deliver them to her gallery, Oil Town Gallery in El Cajon, California, I decided to bring them myself so I could meet her team and see the gallery firsthand.
Afterward she asked a simple question:
“Have you ever been to La Jolla?”
I hadn’t.
So she showed me.
We spent time walking through coastal galleries and overlooking the shoreline where the Pacific rolls gently toward warm sand beneath tall palms and glowing skies. I took reference photos that day, inspired by the light and peaceful rhythm of the ocean.
When I returned home to Sedona, those memories became the foundation for this panoramic La Jolla painting.
Coastal Light in a Panoramic Landscape
Painted in my early layered style, this panoramic coastal painting focuses on movement, balance, and color.
The sky is alive with patterned clouds and radiant hues that echo the visual language that would later evolve in my Sedona paintings. The ocean rolls toward the warm shoreline with a gentle rhythm, while the palms lean naturally as if responding to the breeze.
Even without fluorescent pigments, the La Jolla painting radiates its own internal glow through high-chroma color and layered acrylic brushwork.
Collectors often describe the feeling as peaceful yet energized—the same emotional tone I aim to create throughout my landscapes.
Where Coastline Meets Canyon Inspiration
Collectors who are drawn to this La Jolla coastal painting often explore other shoreline-inspired works in my collection, including Always on Vacay, The Dunes of Naples, and Serenity at Sunset. Each painting captures a different expression of coastal light—from nostalgic beach memories to the soft glow of sunset reflecting across sand and water—while still connecting naturally with the luminous skies and color rhythms that appear throughout my Sedona landscapes.
In many ways, this painting sits at a crossroads between my coastal inspirations and the vibrant desert landscapes that would later define my Vivid Mystical Landscapes series.
Collectors sometimes pair the La Jolla painting with Sedona canyon scenes for contrast—coastal calm beside desert color—showing how different landscapes can share the same emotional warmth.
A Panoramic Window into Coastal Calm
Because of its panoramic format, this La Jolla painting works beautifully in spaces where a wide horizontal artwork can anchor a room—above a sofa, bed, hallway console, or dining area.
The long horizon line creates a feeling of openness and relaxation, much like standing at the edge of the Pacific and watching the tide roll in.
Although not part of my Top Nine collection, this La Jolla painting remains an important milestone within my Vivid Mystical Landscapes—connecting travel, opportunity, and artistic discovery through color, memory, and light.
