Story Behind the Art

Experience the Mystical Charm of “Devil’s Bridge” on Canvas

Some landscapes humble you the moment you step into them. Sedona’s Devil’s Bridge, the largest natural sandstone arch in the region, is one of those places. Standing on the arch feels like being suspended between earth and sky, balanced on stone that has watched the desert breathe for centuries. My painting, Devil’s Bridge, was created to capture that sense of hush, thrill, and light.

I turned to fluorescent acrylics because they allow me to paint not just what I saw but also the energy I felt on that trail. In daylight, the canvas hums with piñon greens, ember oranges, and high-desert blues. Under black light, the scene transforms—the agave in the foreground glows forward, the trail pulls your eye inward, and the arch takes on a sculptural 3-D presence that feels as though you could step into it.

It’s important to note that only the original reveals this full black light transformation. Reproductions—canvas gallery wraps, luminous metal prints, and giclée art prints—keep the glowing brilliance and layered depth of the scene, bringing Sedona’s energy into homes around the world.

Like many of my works, Devil’s Bridge contains hidden hearts. They’re quietly tucked into trees and stone, waiting to be discovered by those who take the time to look closely. I think of them as visual cairns—markers of the love we hold for the land, and the love the land gives back when we pay attention.

Collectors often choose this piece for rooms where people gather. Hung in a great room, entryway, or office, it serves as a strong centerpiece without overwhelming the space. Those who have hiked the real bridge tell me the painting rekindles their memories. Those who haven’t say it makes them want to lace up their boots.

Devil’s Bridge pairs naturally with Cathedral Moon—two visions of Sedona’s stone under luminous skies, one painted in oil, the other in glowing acrylics. It also sits comfortably beside Sedona’s Hypnotic Earthrise, which takes the same sense of suspension and tilts it toward the cosmic.

In the end, Devil’s Bridge is a reminder that some vistas aren’t meant to be kept; they’re meant to be shared. This painting is my way of inviting you up to the arch, to feel the desert air, to see the light, and to carry the view home.
