The Story Behind “Cathedral Magic”
Every artist who paints in Sedona eventually finds themselves drawn to Cathedral Rock, one of the most photographed landmarks in the Southwest. I first painted Cathedral Magic in Fire in the Sky, a sweeping Sedona luminous landscape inspired by the Baldwin Trail near Oak Creek.
Not long after, a collector visited my Sedona studio and said, “You know, if you cropped that top and bottom, it would make an incredible horizontal.” I tried it—and they were right. The new version became Cathedral Magic, a tighter, more intimate take on the same Southwest wall art that captured Sedona’s soul.
This luminous artwork glows with deep reds, cobalt blues, and golden highlights. It transforms the fiery energy of the panorama into something calmer yet equally powerful—proof that Sedona Artwork can evolve while staying true to its roots.
The Cathedral Rock Series
Cathedral Magic belongs to my Cathedral Rock Series, a tribute to Sedona’s most iconic landmark and the inspiration behind many of my Southwest wall art pieces. Its companion painting, Fire in the Sky, was part of a sold-out exhibition at the American Contemporary Art Show in Guangzhou, China, where it appeared alongside Sweet Dreams, Sky of Grace, and Enchanted Castle.
While Cathedral Magic itself didn’t make that international journey, it carries the same emotional DNA—born from the same passion for Sedona luminous landscapes and the timeless glow of Cathedral Rock. This Desert landscape painting brings the same sense of color and rhythm to collectors who want Sedona’s spirit to live in their home.
This Desert landscape painting is part of what I now call my Sedona luminous landscapes—paintings that breathe light, texture, and emotion. As an emerging Sedona artist, I wanted to create something that honored the beauty of the red rocks while giving collectors a sense of calm energy in their homes.
Evolution and Meaning
Every brushstroke in Cathedral Magic reminds me that art is about evolution. The composition may have begun in a panoramic format, but its re-creation allowed me to experiment with balance and harmony—key principles of Southwest artwork and Sedona Paintings.
This piece bridges traditional landscape and emotional expression, combining bold color with quiet design. It’s one of those Mystical Paintings that changes with light—glowing during the day and deepening in tone as the room softens.
The Heart of It All
Art lights up the same part of your brain as
falling in love—it’s an unforgettable feeling.
Collector’s Note
Cathedral Magic is available as giclée art prints, canvas gallery wraps, and luminous metal prints. Each edition captures the vibrance and serenity of Sedona’s desert glow. The painting can be seen at the Village Gallery—one of the best art galleries in Sedona AZ, where collectors discover the full range of my Sedona luminous landscapes and Southwest wall art in person.
