Where Music Became Light
Mesmerized is a fluorescent acrylic painting inspired by music, reflection, and the quiet space between day and night. I was searching for a new image to paint when I came across the album cover as seen here, for Mesmerized by Joe Bongiorno of Piano Haven music. The cover shows a calm lakescape framed by distant mountains, a glowing moon, and a gentle transition from dusk into night. It felt spacious, peaceful, and contemplative — the same qualities that live inside Joe’s piano compositions.

Joe Bongiorno’s Mesmerized album cover, whose moonlit lakescape inspired my painted interpretation.
I asked Joe if he would be comfortable with me creating my own painted interpretation of the album cover. His response stayed with me: “I know your art, and I’d be honored to see what you come up with.” With that encouragement, I allowed the image to evolve through my own visual language.
Interpreting the Image, Not Repeating It
Rather than recreating the album cover, I deepened it. I added detail along the shoreline with rocks and trees, strengthened the reflections in the water, and allowed the mountains to rise more boldly from the horizon. The sky became more expressive, layered with high-chroma acrylic works and phosphorescent acrylics that shift from day to night. This approach reflects my ongoing exploration of Day-to-Night art — work that changes subtly with light and atmosphere. Mesmerized is meant to feel like a pause, the moment just before night fully settles.
Fluorescent Acrylics and Day-to-Night Presence
Painted using fluorescent acrylics, Mesmerized responds to its environment. In natural daylight, the blues, violets, and pinks feel calm and grounded. As the light lowers, the surface gains depth and glow, revealing the character of my black-light paintings and Sedona luminous landscapes. The original painting reacts dramatically under black light. Every giclée art print, canvas gallery wrap, and luminous metal print preserves that same sense of luminous artwork, making this piece feel alive rather than static. This quality defines my Southwest fluorescent art prints and mystical artwork.
Hidden Symbols Within the Reflection
As with many of my Sedona paintings, small hidden hearts are placed within the reflection and sky. They’re meant to be discovered slowly, reinforcing the idea that meaning often reveals itself when we pause long enough to see it. Mesmerized is less about a specific place and more about emotion — a mirror for calm, wonder, and reverence.
A Quiet Dialogue with the Night
Collectors who are drawn to Mesmerized often connect with Coyote’s Lunar Serenade, where moonlight and silence shape the mood in a different way. Both paintings explore reflection — one through water, the other through the night sky — forming a gentle conversation within my body of mystical paintings, Southwest wall art, and Sedona artwork. Later, I presented Joe with a full-size giclée of the finished painting. Seeing how the original inspiration had transformed into something distinctly my own, he was genuinely moved — a moment I’ll always remember.
