Drums & Moccasins Artwork – A Southwest Watercolor Journey
My First Journey West
When I first traveled from New Jersey to the Southwest in the late 1990s, I was drawn to Taos long before I visited there, along with Tucson, Santa Fe, and Sedona. Its blend of Native American heritage, rustic adobe architecture, and desert light felt like stepping into another century. I wandered through Taos and discovered a quiet storefront that seemed frozen in time—music, craft, and spirit all in one scene. That small shop became the focus of this painting.
Painting Taos in Watercolor
“Drums & Moccasins Artwork” depicts a historic 150-year-old adobe chapel near Taos Pueblo—its sunbaked walls vibrant with the colors of Southwestern art tradition. Indian rugs hang on a wooden ladder, and painted steer heads symbolize the fusion of Native and Western heritage. Warm earth tones and burnished reds reflect Sedona’s luminous landscapes and Arizona Art Prints I would later create. Before fluorescent acrylics and high-chroma acrylic works, my watercolor paintings demonstrated how light and emotion come together on paper—authentic Sedona Paintings in spirit.
Reflections and Artistic Evolution
Looking back, “Drums & Moccasins Artwork” connects two worlds—my East Coast roots and my life as a Sedona Artist. It reflects Sedona Artwork as an expression of inner stillness and outer vibrancy. The gentle washes of “Drums & Moccasins Artwork” and defined edges embody Southwest artwork, Sedona Wall Art character, and the calm of mystical paintings, while staying true to my path among Sedona Watercolor Artists and the broader Sedona Watercolor Paintings tradition.
