Coyotes Lunar Serenade is one of my most personal and mystical works, painted in fluorescent acrylics to capture the haunting energy of Sedona’s night. In daylight, it glows with violets, oranges, and deep midnight blues. Under black light, the original transforms: pigments ignite, edges sharpen, and a subtle 3D dimension makes the composition expand into the room. This black light transformation is exclusive to the original, but reproductions—such as canvas gallery wraps, luminous metal prints, and giclée prints—retain much of the layered glow that makes the painting resonate.
The coyote in the foreground howls into Sedona’s glowing night, but the painting rewards those who look closer. A second hidden coyote is woven into the geology, and near the base, a roadrunner dashes across the desert—painted in by my friend Robert Shields. His addition connects this piece directly to Morgan, my Sedona’s Red Rock Roadrunner, adding humor and speed to the scene. Like many of my works, hidden hearts are tucked into the rocks and trees—small symbols of love waiting to be discovered.
My connection to this piece is both spiritual and artistic. Years ago, I was told in a psychic reading that my spirit guide was a Navajo Indian. That vision shaped how I see the coyote in this painting—not just as a trickster, but as a guide and teacher, embodying paradox and play. Coyote’s Lunar Serenade captures that balance: mystical yet playful, solitary yet communal.
Collectors often display this piece where evening light or gentle UV illumination can boost its glow. In natural light, it offers a calming presence; under accent lighting, it becomes a striking display. It naturally complements Sedona’s Hypnotic Earthrise and Morgan, forming a constellation of Sedona nights.
