An Invitation to Guangzhou and the Birth of “Monolithic China”

In January 2019, I had the privilege of showcasing my artwork in a private exhibition of the American Contemporary Art Show in Guangzhou, China’s third most significant city. This trip offered me the incredible opportunity to visit charming villages steeped in culture. Our journey took us to Yangshuo, famous for its electric nightlife, and eventually to Xingping Village, nestled along the iconic Li River.

The inspiration for “Monolithic China” came to life after crossing the Li River. Our mode of transport? A three-wheeled motor scooter with a box attached—practical and undeniably quirky. Along the way, we stopped at the exact spot featured on China’s 20 Yuan banknote. Seeing this legendary view in person was a surreal experience. The combination of karst peaks and tranquil waters was the perfect muse for my next exhibition.

Artistic License Meets Chinese Majesty

The Li River’s ethereal beauty is unparalleled. It winds like a green silk ribbon through Guilin’s karst landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sweet water animates the mountains, and their towering forms seem to guard the serenity below.
