Bryce: Southwest Splendor in Every Stroke
Have you ever stumbled upon a place so majestic it leaves you speechless? That’s what happened to me when I visited Bryce Canyon in southern Utah. Even though most of my artistic inspiration nowadays springs from the iconic red rocks of Sedona, I decided to hit the road and explore Bryce—a mere five-and-a-half-hour drive away. I had heard plenty about its grandeur, and let me tell you, the buzz was well-deserved.
Surrounded by Magnificence
Bryce Canyon’s amphitheater is where my adventure began. My first stop? Inspiration Point. And trust me, it lives up to its name. This overlook features three levels, each offering stunning perspectives of the amphitheater’s sprawling beauty. With every step, I felt the need to capture the essence of the place—its vibrant colors, intricate formations, and sheer magic. Equipped with my camera, I collected the reference photos that later inspired my painting, “Bryce.”
Hoodoos: Nature’s Sculptural Masterpieces
Bryce Canyon is famous for its bizarre yet captivating geology. The amphitheaters are dotted with hoodoos—spires of rock that look like they belong on another planet. As I wandered through this natural maze of slot canyons, windows, fins, and hoodoos, I couldn’t help but marvel at their unique shapes and whimsical arrangements. These fantastical formations, tinted in hues that defy description, became the soul of my modern abstract landscape wall art.
The Rim Trail Adventure
Though Inspiration Point’s steep cliffs don’t have trails leading into the canyon, the Rim Trail provides a breathtaking alternative. Stretching 5.5 miles from Fairyland to Bryce Point, this trail offered me the perfect mix of awe-inspiring views and a serious workout. With an elevation gain of 1,754 feet, my hike clocked in at about four and a half hours—leaving me both exhilarated and in desperate need of a nap. Fun fact: Sedona Art Studios was born in Rim Trail Drive in Sedona, so the connection felt serendipitous.
From Bryce to Canvas
After returning to Sedona, I poured my newfound inspiration into “Bryce,” a painting that encapsulates the vivid, mystical energy of the canyon. This piece is available in various formats, including luminous metal prints, canvas gallery wraps, luxurious float frames, and gift art photo plaques. If you’re looking for Southwest-themed gift cards, we’ve got those too!
Where to See My Art
You don’t have to rely solely on the internet to experience my work. My Southwest landscape originals are proudly displayed at the Village Gallery of Local Artists and the Sedona Artist Market and Gallery. If you’re in uptown Sedona, swing by CupTown Coffee House for a caffeine fix and a dose of artistic inspiration. Each location offers a unique setting to enjoy my art, whether you’re hunting for a specific piece or simply browsing for a treasure.
A Touch of Utah
Bryce isn’t my only homage to Utah’s striking landscapes. Check out “Powell’s Celestial Dreamscape,” a tribute to the vibrant skies over Lake Powell, and “Monument Valley,” which captures the timeless allure of those iconic sandstone buttes. For panoramic enthusiasts, “Rugged Serenity” is a must-see—a painting that radiates the mystical tranquility of the Southwest.

Art isn’t just about the finished piece; it’s about the process, the stories, and the places that inspire it. I share behind-the-scenes looks on my YouTube channel at my creative journey, from sketch to final brushstroke. It’s a little glimpse into how I translate the Southwest’s natural beauty into glowing paintings that spark joy and wonder.
Sedona and Beyond
While Sedona remains my muse, Bryce Canyon proved to be a worthy rival. Its red rock formations rival those of Sedona—and that’s saying something.
